Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about electrical equipment testing, pricing, frequency, records and what happens if equipment fails.

Is electrical equipment testing legally required every year?

No. UK health and safety law requires electrical equipment that could cause injury to be maintained in a safe condition, but it does not prescribe annual electrical equipment testing for every item. Inspection and testing frequency should reflect the equipment, environment and how it is used.

Is electrical equipment testing compulsory?

There is no blanket rule saying every item of electrical equipment must receive a test each year. Electrical equipment testing — commonly called PAT testing — can form part of a risk-based electrical maintenance system alongside user checks and visual inspections.

What does the £65 visit include?

The standard visit includes the first 30 normal tests, normal service-area travel, PASS/FAIL labels, digital test records / asset register and an Electrical Equipment Inspection & Testing Certificate.

What counts as a test?

Each separately testable component can count as a test. As a simple guide: a fixed-lead appliance is normally 1 test; an appliance plus a detachable lead is normally 2 tests; and an appliance plus a power adaptor and detachable lead is normally 3 tests.

What happens if an item fails?

The failed item is clearly recorded and the customer is advised. Tagged Safe does not present a failed label as a repair service; the customer can arrange repair, replacement or a later retest as appropriate.

Do you provide a certificate?

Yes. Customer paperwork can include an Electrical Equipment Inspection & Testing Certificate and a digital report / asset register showing the recorded results.

Can you test for charities and Scout/Guide groups?

Yes. The Charity & Community Rate is £50 including the first 40 standard tests for qualifying registered charities, Scout and Guide groups and other genuine not-for-profit community organisations. Eligibility is checked before the reduced rate is confirmed.

Can equipment stay switched on?

Some equipment cannot reasonably be disconnected during a visit. Tell us in advance or at check-in so it can be identified and the appropriate inspection/testing approach agreed.

Do you cover parking, permits and site inductions?

Yes, but known additional costs or mandatory site-specific training are agreed before booking where possible. The shortened quote request asks only whether there are access, parking, permit, induction, security or other site requirements that could affect the job. Exact arrangements can be confirmed later.
